What is the advantage of ID3DXFont over Fonts associated with Windows GDI?

The Windows GDI uses a layered approach to access devices. DirectX on the other end bypasses this approach and provides "direct access" to hardware(Including Display Adaptor) and hence the name DirectX. So ID3DXFont will be fast and more efficient than the Windows GDI.
