How can I draw 2DImages using DirectX Graphics?
There are two methods of drawing a 2D image in DirectX9. One way by using the traditional DirectDraw and another using the ID3DXSprite Interface. From DirectX7 onwards Microsoft have cut-apart DirectDraw from the API set and it can't be used together with a Direct3D9 Interface! ID3DXSprite on the other hand can be used to draw 2DSurfaces (like a HUD) even in a 3D Application. This technique uses textured quads (four sided polygon). These quads when placed in a plane parallel to the camera will imitate 2D. However, unlike DirectDraw, you can get all the benefits of hardware 3D support - like alpha blending and rotation in any Direction. If you still want to use DirectDraw for your applications you can access them through the LPDIRECTDRAW7 Interface as DirectX is backward Compatible.
