What is DirectInput?
DirectInput provides the user with a single interface to myriad input devices, including support for force feedback (analog and digital joysticks). This component bypasses the Windows messaging system by working directly with device drivers thus providing the fast user responsiveness required in the games of today. Even non-DirectX applications use this API for accessing the various input devices. Although the joystick part of the API is consistent with the Win32 SDK, it has improved responsiveness and reliability as the device driver model was changed. Also, as DirectInput works directly with the device drivers, it either suppresses or ignores Windows mouse and keyboard messages.FAQ Menu
