I am using Windows 98/Me and when my D3D App crashes I need to restart my system. How can this be avoided?

For 98/Me users there is a utility in DirectX9 called Kill Help utility. When a DirectX application crashes, the Ddhelp.exe process sometimes remains active. When this happens, it prevents other DirectDraw or Direct3D applications from working until Ddhelp.exe is terminated or the computer is rebooted. The Kill Help utility will terminate the ddhelp process and spare developers from having to reboot their computer.
