How does the render target array increase the frame rate?

A render target array allows multiple render target and depth stencil textures to be active simultaneously. Render target arrays coupled with geometry shaders can be used for faster environment mapping. For dynamic cubic environment mapping by using an array of six render targets, one for each face of the cube texture, all six faces of the cube can be rendered together with a single DrawIndexed call. This method decreases the number of rendering passes from seven to one, greatly increasing the frame rate.
