What is WDDM?

Windows Vista Display Driver Model (WDDM) is the new device driver model introduced by Microsoft for its Windows Vista operating system. DirectX 10 takes advantage of WDDM and hence promises to improve graphics/gaming performance 8 fold compared to DirectX 9 (at least in terms of rendering queue efficiency).
