Perl 6 FAQ Updates

This FAQ is expanding over time to cover more of Perl 6, and also being updated as the Perl 6 specification is refined. This page lists updates that have taken place.

14th November 2007

Added a new section on concurrency which answers the following questions:

• What will threading look like?
• What is Software Transactional Memory (STM)?
• What will using STM look like in Perl 6?
• How is Perl 6 providing support for data parallelism?

8th March 2007

New Questions Answered

• What is a list operator (or how is "5, 6, sort 8, 7" parsed)?
• What is the cross operator?
• What happens if hyper operators are applied to lists of lists?
• What happens if the lists on either side of a hyper operator are of different lengths or dimensions?
• What is the cross meta-operator?
• How do I state that only some parameters should be used for multiple dispatch?

Updated Questions

• What is the zip operator? - zip is now spelt Z rather than with the Yen symbol; also mentioned the zip function.
• What is the hyper ("»...«" or ">>...<<") meta-operator? - reviewed the answer, removed the now incorrect part about list length upgrades
• What is binding (the ":=" and "::=" operators)? - clarified that the right hand side of ::= is evaluated at compile time
