COULD INP(?) BE USED TO CHECK DISKETTE STATUS?

Alex.J.Alex.J. Member Posts: 1
Is there a way to check on a diskettes
write protect status and presence in a
drive by using an INP(??) instruction,
without actually spinning up the drive.

Would it be possible to confirm a disk
was present, had been removed and then
been replaced again.

I do not need to check for a different
diskette, only for presence or absence
and write protect status.

Will the I/O port address location vary
or be the same, for different computers.

Thankyou.
