Send Email in SQL7

Can anyone tell me how I can have an email sent when there is a change in one of my tables? Is there any Stored Procedure that can be called b a trigger or maybe a trigger that will do the trick?

Basically, when an employee has a contact number updated, I need SQL to notify everyone via email that the persons contact information has changed.

Please, someone help me quickly.

Thank you

  • I can trigger MS Exchange email using system stored procedure inside SQL server named "xpsendmail", but on how to monitor the changes, it is very hard to tell. I think the best way to do this is using application control, where any database operation that invoke the particular field, you can use the system stored procedure to send an update email?

DOes the xpsendmail stored procedure work in SQL7? As far as monitoring it, I will uuse a trigger to call the stored procedure when there is a change.
  • xpsendmail is a system stored procedure, it can be used to fire configured email server (mostly with Exchange), you need to point to either master or msdb db to call that system extended stored proc.

Yes, you can use trigger to run certain process, or use scheduled jobs or even using a DTS package, depends on the complexity and usability.

Give it a try, i m sure you can solve this fast n furious...hehehe
