Shared Connection in VB.NET

Is there a better way to use the design-time controls in Visual Studio.NET for maintaining a connection to a database than dragging the connection from the server explorer for each form? I want to be able to create a global connection object and have it available to me within each new form I create. More specifically, I want to be able to use design-time controls with the "global connection" so I still get the benefits of data previewing and so forth.
