-where can i find good and easy to understand tutorials? (my first project will be a guestbook, if anyone knows a cool link)
-what else can i do with php except for guestbooks?
-do you think its useful to program with php? why/why not?

    hey! :-)

first of all you need a php interpretor, installed as a module of your webserver (for some reason I guess you want to do dynamic webpages with PHP). As said you need a webserver too, to reach the sites you want to be interpreted by your PHP.

You can get an easy to handle webserver here: http://www.apache.org - The PHP-Interpretor itself you get here: http://www.php.net/downloads.php

I guess you are working on a windows system, for this reason you should download the binaries of both components for windows.

Last in line you need an easy to handle text editor, to edit your php files - here I can't give you a clue, it depends on your working experience, which one you will find best.

Tutorials you can find a lot on programmersheaven, if you don't find what you are searching for in here, you can visit zend's website (the developers of php), where you also find a lot of tutorials and stuff about php (www.zend.org).

With php you can do a lot of things, most of them are regarding to dynamic content on your website - you can do guestbooks, forums - and content management systems as well. PHP has got some powerful functions to help you, creating a website that is now dynamic, and no longer static.

    hey!

well, 1st of all thanx for the quick answer, i now downloaded the

PHP 4.3.3 installer (description:CGI only, MySQL support built-in, packaged as Windows installer to install and configure PHP, and automatically configure IIS, PWS and Xitami, with manual configuration for other servers. N.B. no external extensions included).

is that what I need to view php files on my pc? if my webserver (arcor.de) says it supports php, what do i need to upload? and if it doesnt (havent checked)?

if that thing is cleared, ill start looking for tutorials!

    So,

the installer for php you only can use - if you have installed a webserver on your local machine, and this is only to test php-files quickly.

If you want to test your scripts online - you only have to upload the php-files to your arcor-webspace, and then call the url of this files with a webbrowser.

A good beginner tutorial I've found here: http://perl.about.com/cs/beginningphp/

if you are looking for more tutorials, I guess you should google a bit - I've got many results by searching "php tutorials beginner" there

    have a lot of fun!
