Harddisk led

Under MS-DOS or under no os the harddisk led is allways on and under windows it's allmost off while i'm not accessing the harddisk...Dose bios int the harddisk ? How do i stop this ?

    under all todays operating-system disk-operations are buffered through memory.the operating-system writes/reads in the background while other things could be done.good-old dos uses the old bios-read/write operations with int13 which are slow.modern win32/linux platforms use other methods (direct I/O with ports) which are way faster and gainning extra-performance through buffered disk-I/O
