making a checkbook program

just need to make it for one person, trying to show my dad the power of programming lol so i need to make him a program to create the account first, calculate deposits, withdrawls, interest rates, have like a huge message come up if there's not enough money in the bank for like a withdraw or something, and wanna make it easier for him so im gunna set it up with vb, im still ify on the whole using sql with vb thing but i can learn help me out?
