Looking for a small routine in VB to access I/O-ports

I'd like to know how to read and write to I/O-ports in the computer using

Visual Basic. I'm looking for a small routine that works like PEEK and POKE in

the old Commodore machines or the IN and OUT instructions using assembler

on the PC. I'm experimenting with electronics and plan to build an I/O-card

with the old 8255-chip to control my electronics on the lab bench.

  • as much as i know, you cant do this in VB. why not make a C++ DLL that utilizes the functions _out & the other one( i dont remember) then use it in VB.

calling the function _out directly from the C++ lib in VB doesnt work. i havent tried this yet, some guys on this board tried it before.

i still need to know so much, so this text may be erroneous
