PHP Tag list. PHP Tool. Need help.

Hi, I am not a PHP programmer.
I am making a HTML Editor in Visual Basic.
The HTML Editor will be a probably be a freeware program that supports the following:

PHP
ASP
JavaScript
CGI/Perl
VBScript
XML
CSS

It will be able to highlight all the tags from these languages and there will also be tools for:

PHP
ASP
JavaScript
CGI/Perl
VBScript

For an instance the tool for JavaScript generates functions and analyzes all variables(Get's their name....) and then it has a command maker(Puts a command and a variable together. it has different command types therefore it may do this in several ways).

I have already made the tools for:

JavaScript

and made highlighting for:

ASP
JavaScript
VBScript
CSS

But now I have come to the PHP part.
Could somebody email me a list of "PHP Tags" for the highlighting.
And tell me how variables are made in PHP and how to do some error tracing in PHP code(For the PHP Tool).

Thanks in advance.

  • hey

    i think if you want to make a program like that you should really know how to program stuff with it as its almost impossible to make a highlighter if you dont know the basics.
    but as i dont know how complex your highlighter will be and im a new php progger, too, maybe i could be wrong :)

    good luck!

    the standard opening/closng PHP tags are
<?php
    ...stuff here...
    ?>
to declare a variable called foo it would be
<?php
    $foo = "hello";
    $foo = 5;

    ...etc...
    ?>
you do not need to have types in php, as shown above. all statements end in a semi-colon (;) ...sorta like C/C++

    comments are like C/C++
<?php
    //this is a comment

    /* this is another comment */

    /*
    lajfldsjfas
    ljafsdlajfasd
    more comments
    */
    ?>
to print to the screen there is
<?php
    print("Hello there!");
    ..OR..
    echo 'Hello THere';

    ..to print a variable...
    //This would print Hi there 5, since we declared $foo =5 last time
    print("Hi there $foo");
    ?>
hope that helps get you started. check www.php.net for all PHP functions, etc.

    peace,
    Craig

    p.s.
    let me know when you have a running version of your program, sounds interesting. ([email protected])
