led display link

ok, i was surfing the net one day and i found someguys project page
he had a detailed description of video display type ob ject
he set up a bunch of leds to move really fast so that the picture would appear to be right in front of you
you could program in games, a clock, etc., and be able to play or watch them
i was wondering if anyone has been to, or could help me find the link
i would be much grateful

Type in LED clock into your search engine ...that should get you started

Off hand I don't know a link ,however the idea is easy.

think of the leds as connected in a matrix. ID them by a row and column number like this

    col 1 col2 col3
    row1 11 12 13
    row2 21 22 23
    row3 31 32 33

NOW what you want to do is drive the ROW and collomn lines lets say you pick row 1, then you drive the signal down col 1-3, then you pick row 2 and drive the signals to col1-2 ,but you will light uip 21-23!
next row 3, and so forth.. and you need not limit the number of either columns OR rows except by the money you can spend, the number of LEDS you are willing to connnect OR>. the amount of electricity you can use (grin)

and there are both embedded microcontroller designs and simpler electroncs that can build all this sort of stuff.
