Awesome game builder! It's completely free amazing!...You can make the same, even better games in this with COMPLETELY no programming(flash needs actionsript) as in
the 500$ US Macromedia Flash. Easily following one of the small tutorials included in Game Maker, I made a cool game where objects of your choice go around a background(room) of your choice, and when you click on them with the left mouse button they play a sound(of your choice), and it adds a point to your score.(or 2, or 5, whatever you decide). By the way, this was made in about 5 minutes. The balls even bounced off the sides of the walls! It also includes 4 or 5 games for you to play with and change, and see the what happens when you do this, etc...
It also includes a library of sound effects that can be easily put into your game, scheduled for certain events, and more. It has a few scripts, to add functions to your game. Best of all, though, it has a sweet library of backgrounds(rooms, or levels) for your games. There are cool ones like jungle, and they include objects that you can change around, and stuff. Download it now!

Game maker is probably one of the easiest ways to create a game on the internet. Programming is a lot harder and a lot of time must be put into making a game. The only problem I found was that the games are large when compiled, but unless you have an ancient computer, that shouldn't be a problem. :)

I stumbled onto this program when it was version 4.0. I thought it was a powerful tool back then. It has only gotten better as Mr Overmars has made changes. It is a fairly simple program to use. This program is limited only by the imagination of the user. It is for 2D games only but the really creative among the users have found ways to make it appear to be 3D.

The best advice on how to use this program would be to read the documentation thoroughly then check the forum for tutorials on how to do just about anything with Game Maker.

Gamemaker 5 is the best gamecreation software,well the best free game creation software. Gamemaker 5 comes with an built in programming language called GML and it is very easy to pickup. Gamemaker's only downfull is the overall speed that the games that are made with it run slow on computers at around 300MHz. But seeing that most computers now dayare 1GHz thats not a problem. Dont know how to cdoe no problem the software has a very easy to use and flexible drag and drop system with this u can make anything from games to very helpful software. This is deffinetly a must download if u have allways wanted to make your own games. I should know and all the other people in the GM community who have been using this software for months or even years.

This is the best software I have seen.
I have seen 11 year olds even 8 year olds use it!

It would be GREAT to have in the class room.

Even people that use real programing langueges like Java and C/C++ use this soft ware because it's sooo quick and easy to make a game in it.
Plus it can use DLLs so you can extend it even more!

This program is good for people just starting programing and Expert programers!

This is the most incredible game creation software I've ever seen, and I've been through quite a few.

Game Maker has a ton of features (a lot of room for improvement, of course, but what doesn't need that?), can be used by both people with no programming experience whatsoever and professional game designers. You can use the simple drag-and-drop interface, or use the easy-to-learn GML language.

Game Maker is excellent. One can create not-so-good games with it, and one can create awesome, professional quality games. Just check out the games on the Games page of the official site, http://www.gamemaker.nl! And, Game Maker is freeware.

Now this is the best Gamemaking tool for newbies and it also inclueds some very advanced features like the use of dlls but the slow drawing and code interpretation are a bit limiting. But it is free so I would recomend it to everyone even expericened programers ; the code is rather simple yet powerful and fast written (no varibal declaration, endless strings) so very good for smaller projects or Math tests. C and pascal/dephi programers will probably have no problems with the syntax(You can use for example {} or begin end).

You can almost make anything with this program, such as breakout, pacman, and RPGs, and it's really simple to learn the code. The cost is free, unless you want to support the growth of it, then it will cost $15.00. If your just getting into programming, this is a great place to start.

This Program is great. It is available for free. You can create stand-alone files, eg. exe. It may appear very basic at first but 3D and isometric games have been created. The registered version (which costs 15 euros) feature a particle system, options to change the mouse cursor and support of DLLs.

I highly recommend you trying this if you are confuse with all the techno jargon (like I am) and want to try some basic programming. If you are already competent at programming and game developing I still recommnend this because the posibilities are endless.
