For my company's projects I'm in charge of evaluating SCM systems to replace MS VSS. I looked at Perforce, of course, being spread quite well. Now I ordered the evaluation for alienbrain v6 and was quite pleased with what I got in the mail. alienbrain put alot of work on the usability, totally unlike Perforce, and it offers features that really come in handy. for example, the branch wizard let's you create a branch in 1 second and let's you define the relationship to the main branch, for example, which files of the main branch also get changed in the new branch and which do not: great for new language or OS versions. there are many of these examples (like internal messanger, Araxis Merge Licence included, etc) and although lacking the changelist concept of Perforce, it makes up for it with the features it offers, that's why I'm gonna give it 5 stars out of 5. the webpage also mentions a special source control pack, making it even cheaper than perforce. keep in mind, alienbrain's main focus is on asset management, which means it manages 2D and 3D data, like used in game projects (I think Electronic Arts and Pixar are customers). Bottom line: worth checking out

Yes, we are using this -- for eveything (arts, source code, etc.) We are very happy with alienbrain and I feel like it stands heads and shoulders over Perforce. Mark my words: alienbrain will be dominate in the games industry five years from now.
