ASM_OS

Submitted By: frizzz
Rating: star (Rate It)

Assembler OS for AT-PC, written in nasm-dialect. This OS is
bootable from floppy or IDE-harddisk with bootloader in MBR or
on floppy. It is meant for easily testing own code (after
re-assembling it), testing the machine and read or write
everywhere in memory or on disks. Simple filesystems for FD and
HD are added, separately assembled binaries (standalones
without linker header) can be started. The mainloop is used to
branch between an editing mode, a copy mode and a menu mode
using function keys. The program is very well commented in
english and german. A lot of questions from beginners are
answered. A lot of usable procedures are provided for defining
descriptors, int-handlers, memorydumps, hex-output,
menuhandling and FD- and HD-transfers.

Seemed interesting but can't get it to work. star   Posted by: Andrew on Friday, October 21, 2005

I followed the brief but straight forward instructions.. essentially "compile" with NASM, and rawwrite to a floppy... but it just doesn't boot. I just get a blank screen. :(
Maybe it doesn't like my hardware or something. I give it one star because there's still a lot of interesting code there -- it's just not what it "should" be - a working, bootable OS. Too bad.

If anybody knows how to make it work, or has any ideas or suggestions.. or even knows of another, similar OS (small, written in assembly, but still fairly functional..) Please let me know! Thanks!
