Stroustrup misses the point
by Unknown, on Saturday Jun 19, 2004
Why was object-oriented programming called object-oriented in the first place? This article by Bjarne Stroustrup does not answer this question. In line with his conclusion OO should be called something like "inheritance based programming", not "object-oriented". One problem is that his bibliography is too young. It is impossible to understand OO without going back to the first articles about it in the 1950's. If the article represents current thinking, then there is no logical reason to continue using the not-understood phrase "object oriented".
