Turbo C 2.01 provided everything you needed, all of the tools,
included in one environment. Turbo C 2.01 provided tight
integration between the editor, compiler, linker, and debugger.
This was the first version of Turbo C to include the integrated
debugger. The professional version also included the standalong
versions of Turbo Assembler and Turbo Debugger.

download many conmpilers but its a mission trying to install them, always coming up with an error. This is simple enough. Put disk 2&3 together on one floppy and run the first floppy etc.

Anonymous was right. If you have the files on a hard drive in separate folders, after it finishes with DISK1, it asks you to "insert DISK2". The install completes fine if all the files are in DISK1.

If you are learning C, this is the compiler for you. It's free, fast, and easy to use once you get used to it. Hint: Unzip the file and place all the files in DISK1 on to a floppy. All the files in DISK2 on another, and the same with DISK3. Save the floppy's you might need them again.

Cool compiler for free. i had a long experience with this compiler. works smoothly and generates optimised code. good for students and professional too (just 2 try out few things). there is no need to install it also. just copy the files and set the path in IDE. well done Borland. !!

The whole download is only about 1 megabyte. Installation is simple once you realize the installer is looking for a series of floppies and not the 3 folders on your hard drive that you may get after doing the initial unzip. The original distribution, 11 years ago, was on 3 High Density floppies.
The DOS IDE is uses a clunky DOS interface, with no mouse support, but it is excellently though out and implemented. Moving or copying text will be a chore though. You can only load one script at a time. The help screens are small, and display monospaced text, a little bit at a time. However the Help system gives clear definitions of basic reserved words, though it is not full documentation.
Errors in compilation are reported in a little window, and the area in the script where the error is is highligted.
The program has 2 compilers: one is integrated with the DOS ide desribed above, the other can be accessed from the command lne -- or can be used with the ide of your choice. A newer Windows ide might be a good idea. If you use the command line compiler from a dos window or with a windows ide, you will get the same script error report you get from the dos-ide compiler, but you won't see where the error is, highlighted in your script -- a slight disadvantage to using a non-dedicated ide.
I really like this program. I'd like more documention with it, though.

Hey all you guys got it all wrong. What you have to do is copy all the folders (disk1, disk2, and disk3) into one single forler and just click the Install app. Chose the folder where you combine all the file and there your FINISH!!! got it!!!

There is a bug in Turbo C v2.01 library.
The function "void delay(unsigned milliseconds)" declared in "dos.h" does not work properly. For example, delay(5000) waits less than 5 seconds (only about 1 second). This function cannot be used in serial communications...

I you have a Flash Drive or memory card you card, just copy the files from each folder in the archive to the root directory of the Flash Drive or memory card. Then run install.exe. When the installer asks you to switch disks, just leave the Falsh Drive or memory card in the computer and press and key or Enter (whatever it says to do, I don't remember) :)

Im not sure about the first comment. You do not need any media to use the software. Just copy the directories to you HDD, and you are good to go.
This is by far my most recommended DOS C complier. It includes a nice IDE, as well as command line utility. Includes TASM, and the BGI (Borlands Graphics Interface). Can build any real mode DOS program, without any limitations.

While installing the c compiler an error is coming, asking to insert compiler/utilities disk in the drive from which i am extracting the files. Every time i install it gets stuck at the same time. Great tool! TurboC is still alive and kicking. I have used this tool more than 10 years(?) now and it has always been very easy to start some experiments with this tool. UI is ablsoutely wonderful! You can find everything you really NEED. Thanks Borland!!!
