DBConvert Utility 1.01

efmera submitted a new file.
This utility allows you to convert between several database formats and generates data modules for Delphi and Lazarus. It is able to add referential integrity support to databases that do not support it, for example, for in-memory data-sets, in the middle-ware data module.

It can:
- Pack/Backup Paradox database in a single file.
- Unpack/Restore Paradox database from a single file.
- Convert Access to Paradox database.
- Convert Access database to Delphi/Lazarus Data Module. You can control the way the indexes, fields and referential integrity rules are generated in the data module.
- Convert Access database to SQL. You can control the Format of the SQL File, which can be MySQL or SQLite.

You can see detailed help, executing the command without parameters:
C:\> dbconvert.exe
I did solve the problem though, running D2010 in compatibility mode for WinXP.

The problem now (now that I got D2010 to work), is that D2010 is way too slow on Win7, so I'm back on WinXP.

I checked where the slowness comes from:
any line of code like x:=TX.create is extrememly slow.

My program is quiet large (+/- 1 million lines of code). I don't know if this is the reason, but I would appreciate if someone lets me know if you had the same problem, and how (if) you fixed it.

PostgreSQL Data Access Components

corelab submitted a new file.
PostgreSQL Data Access Components (PgDAC) is a library of components that provides direct access to PostgreSQL database servers from the following IDEs:
Embarcadero RAD Studio XE, Embarcadero RAD Studio 2010, CodeGear Delphi 2009, C++Builder 2009, CodeGear RAD Studio 2007, Delphi 2007 for Win32, C++Builder 2007, Borland Developer Studio 2006, Delphi 2005, Turbo Delphi, Turbo Delphi for .NET, Turbo C++, Delphi 7,6, C++Builder 6, Lazarus and FreePascal for Win32 and Linux.

60-day fully functional trial versions of all products are available on Devart web site: www.devart.com/pgdac/download.html

PgDAC is designed to help programmers develop really lightweight, faster and cleaner PostgreSQL database applications without deploying any additional libraries.

PgDAC works directly through TCP/IP protocol and does not use the PostgreSQL client library. As data is transferred from socket to storage without additional buffers, the PgDAC performance is kept on the highest level.

Key Features:
* Direct access to server data without using client library
* Full support of the latest versions of PostgreSQL Server
* VCL, VCL.NET, and LCL versions of library available
* Support for all PostgreSQL Server data types
* Disconnected Model with automatic connection control for working with data offline
* Local Failover for detecting connection loss and implicitly reexecuting certain operations
* All types of local sorting and filtering, including by calculated and lookup fields
* Automatic data updating with TPgQuery, TPgTable, and TPgStoredProc components
* Unicode and national charset support
* Supports many PostgreSQL-specific features, such as notifications, notices, and sequences
* Advanced script execution functionality with the TPgScript component
* Support for using macros in SQL
I suggest you to manipulate data by setting the sql, and using sql queries instead of using filters, it will be faster, than filter the table (if I understand the question properly).
What kind of database engine are you using along with ADO?

jfreak53 posted a new message on the Delphi and Kylix forum.
Ok so I have this procedure that creates series for my chart at runtime, it works fine, the first time. While the program is running I have to at one point when the user clicks an icon, I have to cycle through the series to see which ones of my box items are there and if X is not there create a new series. It doesn't work needless to say the second time, I get an error on run.

This is my procedure:

procedure createSeries ();
var
  account: string;
  autoP: bool;
  I: integer;
  Line: TLineSeries;
begin
Form1.Chart1.RemoveAllSeries;

for I := 0 to Form1.servlist.Items.Count-1 do
begin

account := Form1.servlist.Items.Strings[I];
autoP := readBoolFromRegistry('Software\m\f\' + account, 'wping', false);

if autoP = true then
begin

  Line := TLineSeries.Create(Line);
  Line.Title := account;
  Line.Name := account;
  Line.Marks.Visible := true;
  Line.Marks.Clip := false;

  If Form1.Chart1.SeriesList.IndexOf(Line.Pointer) = -1 then
  begin
    Form1.Chart1.AddSeries(Line);
  end;

end;

end;

end;

It all works perfect the first time, but the second time it says that line component already exists.
Third party overlay?

zorfox posted a new message on the Delphi and Kylix forum.
I'm writing an application to display statistics within a third party window. Applications I've seen that do this show multiple “heads up displays” in each window. I assume the way to do this is to overlay my window over the third party’s window and hide the form but not the components. I have been able to do this using the CombineWindowsRGN. However, I can’t seem to show more than one component at a time since I am using CreateRectRGN. Maybe if I understood CreatePolygonRGN that would be the way to approach this rather than CreateRectRGN? Here is the way I do it for one component, Button1…

var
FullRgn, ClientRgn, ButtonRgn: THandle;
Margin, X, Y: Integer;
begin
Margin := (Width - ClientWidth) div 2;
FullRgn := CreateRectRgn(0, 0, Width, Height) ;
X := Margin;
Y := Height - ClientHeight - Margin;
ClientRgn := CreateRectRgn
(X, Y, X + ClientWidth, Y + ClientHeight) ;
CombineRgn(FullRgn, FullRgn, ClientRgn, RGN_DIFF) ;
X := X + Button1.Left;
Y := Y + Button1.Top;
ButtonRgn := CreateRectRgn
(X, Y, X + Button1.Width, Y + Button1.Height) ;
CombineRgn(FullRgn, FullRgn, ButtonRgn, RGN_OR) ;
SetWindowRgn(Handle, FullRgn, True) ;
end;

Regardless it seems like I am approaching this all wrong. Since I need to be able to drag the HUD (components) around the third party window, repainting the window every few milliseconds appears choppy. My other option may be to AlphaBlend the form to 0 but not the components. Again, I see no way to do this since the components are siblings of the form and fade away as well. Setting MyComponent.Parent := nil causes them to disappear for obvious reasons.

I’m at a loss right now and would greatly appreciate any input. I am still using Delphi 7 by the way. Thanks in advance!

Ripper posted a new message on the Delphi and Kylix forum.
good morning guys, hope you can help me.

I want to start and play around with delphi and OO.

I have a little app in my head, but dont know how to tackle it.

Let me explain what I want to do/need.

There is a edit box, where the user can enter a string that consists out of 2 values. Example: data = value

now, the data and the value is just plain strings.

under the edit box is a list box, where things are listed.

So, if the user type in Hello = World, in the list box Hello = World will exist. Only alpha numerics are allowed in the 2 values.

On the right hand side, there is a few buttons.

ADD - Add a entered string to the list box
Sort by the first value - Sort by the first value (with all the values in the list box)
Sort by the second value - Sort by the second value (with all the values in the list box)
Delete - Delete all the items entered.

That is the short story of it.

To start off, how do i store the data, if i want to create a nice OO project ? I thought of stringlists, because of the sort functionality that it have, but that sounds to easy.

please help

caspert_ghost posted a reply on the Delphi beginners forum.
looks like its time to remove "Programmers Heaven" from my favorites list of programmer help pages.

3 days and not even a tag asking for more information.

After several hours of web hunting I have learned:
Borland started a new section called codegear which was sold to another company who is all about money.

Turbo Delphi is no longer supported and ALL of the "personal" versions that were at one time free for NON commercial use are no longer supported.

I am like many of you and not about to fork out 3 grand for a program to learn programming.

MS styill offers some of theirs for free but I never liked MS,

I got a copy of Delphi 7 from a friend that allows me to import 3rd party components and I have added TMozillaBrowser to it and have it working no problems.

For others who may be seeking this same problem:
Turbo Delphi does NOT allow the import of any components get Delhi 7.

The Mozilla browser works exactly the same as a TWebBrowser with minor tweaks and addons needed.

happy coding, as I am removing this site from my links and seeking a more "awake" programers site.
