code2htm.c v1.04

Captain Crunch submitted a new file.
Code2htm converts ASCII based text & programming source files into a simplistic HTML web page that can be later customized with other HTML tags, Javascript, and etc.In fact it will even convert HTML code to a web page of it's own. In addition, the program also heads the top of the webpage a date and time so that other user's can check for updates to the web page. The user interface are two user input prompts that ask for the source and destination, followed by a verification. The zip file provides a HTML example of a conversion of code2htm itself to show what it looks like in a web browser.
code2htm is a source code written in ANSI C that can be imported to other OS systems.

pseudocoder posted a reply on the PHP forum.

One thing you might try is using a scrolling div within a table

ID

Name

Age

               <?php
                  $res = mysql_query("select * from Student_Info");
                  if(mysql_num_rows($res) > 0) {
                     while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($res)) {
                        echo "
" .
                             "
" . $row['id'] . "
" .
                             "
" . $row['name'] . "
" .
                             "
" . $row['age'] . "

";
                     }
                  }
               ?>

It's super late for me, but hopefully it's valid code... my eyeballs are blurry. :D I didn't do any formatting of the table(s), but maybe something like that.
Re: web hosting recommendations

Josh Code posted a reply on the HTML & WEB-Design forum.
Thanks for the tip. I have some projects that are likely good for that. I have some software that functions as a web server and for these products a virtual server would be ideal. I could install a custom web server and run it on port 80 which could be quite powerful.

hosting24 is very closely tied with 000webhost, if not the exact same company. When I paid for hosting with 000webhost, it got hacked and mass emailing scripts were put up, the suspension notices came from hosting24. In general, the paid hosting seems better than the free ones I have. A couple of my free accounts still haven't been hacked into which is better than the paid one. It is frustrating to have these hacks happening almost every month. Malicious JavaScript and HTML gets added to the end of some files sometimes. cgi programs were added and some weird forum completely hid my web content on the paid account. I don't get why the service can be that vulnerable.

Thanks for that tip and welcome any others.

web hosting recommendations

Josh Code posted a new message on the HTML & WEB-Design forum.
Hi,

I have had some difficulties with 000webhost and am looking for another hosting service that supports PHP, MySQL, and has a functioning PHP mail function. 000webhost used to be great for free and paid services with little difference between them. Now, my paid and free accounts with 000webhost are both similarly unreliable. There are frequent down times and the worst thing is that somehow files are getting added and edited without my involvement as if hackers are getting into my accounts. I have a paid account that was suspended for SPAM emailing because some hackers or other people got in and set up mass emailing scripts.

I also had trouble with godaddy's PHP mail function. It is taking hours to get received in a yahoo account and some emails seem to never get through. This is a serious problem when I want to use forum boards like phpBB which use emails as important notices of message replies, private messages, and other notices.

Services that are both free and cost under $10 per month are both helpful recommendations.

Thanks

Re: RSS feeds, RS232 comms to LED Display

Josh Code posted a reply on the HTML & WEB-Design forum.
First, I'd like to say that the project sounds really neat. Anything that mixes some motor control with software is appealing to me lately because I just used RS-232 for controlling some remote control car motors in a robotics competition.

It would be easier to understand if you could remove the unneeded information about things you can do on your own.

This is my understanding of what you want:
To put it in just a few words, you want to build a bridge between an RSS feed off Twitter and the iobridge api.

You want this work to be performed on the web server's computer.

If the server supports PHP, it can be used to download an RSS feed. It will likely support some XML parsing and processing functions too which can be used to extract the information you need.

Since you eventually want to use this iobridge api and twitter RSS feeds, I wouldn't do anything with the web server software, ie. Apache HTTP Server. Instead, I'd make a separate compiled program that runs on the same computer as the web server and continually downloads RSS feeds, parses them, and calls on the iobridge api as needed.

If you want users on the site to remotely control the devices in the tank, I would let the users send their commands from forms in the website and let the website's database temporarily store the commands. This way, the site acts as producer of tasks to be done. The compiled iobridge api program would then frequently ask for new jobs to execute like a producer-consumer pattern. The consumer would ask by downloading an XML or text based document frequently(every few seconds) and executing any jobs in them by calling on the iobridge api.

Inheritance and Performance

szluha posted a new message on the Advanced Delphi forum.
I have a question concerning performance:

I developed an information system that uses many object types that all inherit from TMySuperObject. Another class then manages a web of arrays of these objects, with a overloaded routine called fetch for each object type that searches the web of arrays to return an instance of a specific object in memory.

Which one of the following scenarios would offer best performance (considering a web of 100's of arrays with 1000's of large objects each):

---------------------------------------

function TMyManager.fetch(theObjecttype1_ID : TObjecttype1_ID) : TMySuperObject; overload;

function TMyManager.fetch(theObjecttype2_ID : TObjecttype2_ID) : TMySuperObject; overload; // etc.

...then to use the function:

anObject := TObjecttype1(manager.fetch(objecttype1_ID));

---------------------------------------
OR

function TMyManager.fetch(theObjecttype1_ID : TObjecttype1_ID) : TObjecttype1; overload;

function TMyManager.fetch(theObjecttype2_ID : TObjecttype2_ID) : TObjecttype2; overload; // etc.

...then to use the function:

anObject := manager.fetch(objecttype1_ID);

---------------------------------------

Although it is irrelevant to my question, my app is using Rails, and there are several places where the after submitting a form, a long time will pass before it is completed. These are not database request but calls to libraries that run applications such as nmap. This can take a while.

Is there a non-AJAX way to be able to give the user a status update? If I start using AJAX, then most of the application will have to use it and I am not a fan of over using AJAX. It is fine for the occasional small task but it is terrible to heavily rely on it.

I think maybe a web browser just isn't the solution for my app and I need to make it a proper desktop application.
I am new in programming in visual basic and am working on a project in VB web in visual studio 2008. I have a group of radio buttons, one is a and the other is b. I when the user doesn't select one of the buttons i need a required validate error to tell the user to select a choice of a or b. I don't want to use a message label. The book we are using doesn't explain all the details.
Thanks for your help

http://www.cs.unc.edu/~mcmillan/comp136/Lecture7/circle.html

(You select center and edge on the grid with the mouse and it draws a circle.)

But when i try to find the code in the saved web page dir or
in temporary internet files dir i cant find anything.
(in html source there is a reference to Circles.class)
(i searched *.css *.js *.jsp or anything that containes word circle in it.)

Since the page works offline the code is saved somewhere
on my computer(in some form).
My question is where, in what file?
some text
Again some picture + alignment then
some text then
.

Microsoft Internet Explorer and
Mozilla Firefox work fine but
Google Chrome ignores
and so my page shows cascaded.

What do i use instead
that Google Chrome wont ignore.
Treeview - Speeding up adding of nodes

Markus.L posted a new message on the VB.NET forum.
Hi,

I'am facing a "serious"/annoying problem at the moment. We are building an web application with Visual Studio 2008/ASP.NET/VB.NET.
We are using version 3.5 of the .NET framework.

In the web app we have an Treeview-control, that we populate with over 5000 nodes, which are added dynamically during the run time. Doing so takes a long time, and is not really acceptable in terms of user friendliness of the UI.

We just recently started to look into speeding it up a bit, and we found out that Begin/EndUpdate-methods should do just that.

There is just one problem, i cannot find these methods under my Treeview at all.

Has it been removed or am i just looking for wrong things from wrong places, i tried looking for it under my Treeview1, but with no luck so far.

______________________________________________________________

If for some reason i canno't use Beginupdate anymore, is there any other way of speeding it up?

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

- Markus

EDIT: Not sure if this would have gone better under the ASP.NET forums. If so, feel free to move it in there.

Vista I think by default is set up to do this.

Or - are you running through a proxy? You might need to set up the proxy on the WebClient.

Using the web client should be able to assure you there is nothing wrong with your code as far as accessing a web page, so something externally must be blocking or not allowing your application access to the outside world.

Also - do you have to log into your site? Does it need a cookie or any kind of authentication in order to access the page you are accessing?
One of the things I need the program to be able to do is render a web page withing the program. This web page would need to be functional too, not just for looks. I am unsure if Firefox have a free rendering engine or how I would go about implementing such a thing. Does anyone have a recommendation of where to start? This site will be for profit if that makes a difference.

Also, is this the type of thing that c++ would be good to program in? Maybe Java would be better or maybe even a different language.

Thanks for any help.
