Splitting string input

Posted the message 'Splitting string input' on the C and C++ forum.
What is the best method to split data in a string.

Currently I am reading a file which has "this is some sample text"
I would like to split this at whitespace's so it gives me 5 array values.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
best method for reading a file

Posted the message 'best method for reading a file' on the Beginner C/C++ forum.
I am trying to figure out the best method for reading in a file:
the file has a structure similar to XML (though it is NOT xml).
<job>
<description>
General
specific
professional
</description>
<wage>
7.25
11.56
16.36
</wage>
</job>

This file could be either large or small, depends on previous usage. Would it be worth reading in the whole file to parse the data or reading in the data line by line?

Thanks

Posted the message 'Re: Modifying a select field...' on the HTML & WEB-Design forum.
Hi there,

You are able to edit the background color and font using css. Just give the box a class name then apply css coding to it as standard. I remember reading somewhere that I dont think it will work on IE based browsers. So it might be worth just slightly changing your deisgn to match other wise there will differences in design on different browsers.

Thanks

Posted the message 'Re: file_get_contents() works sometimes' on the PHP forum.
Hi,

I once had a similar problem to what your having using the file_get_contents(). I think the problem I had was that the file I was collecting was so large it just didnt work.

I ended up just using the file() function. This turned out nicer as all the data was put into an array as opposed to a giant string. Means that you can work with it better.

It might be worth you checking out the php.net website to look at some other options and solutions people have come up with.

Thanks,

Comparing time using PHP

Posted the message 'Comparing time using PHP' on the PHP forum.
I am looking to compare two times I have collected, the data consists of a current day/ time, and I am looking to compare this to a previous day/ time.
If the dates are within 24 hours of each other then all is good if its within 30 hours then there might be a problem.
And if the date is over 30 hours then an error has occured.

Does anyone know the best way of comparing these dates and times?

Thanks
Re: Help us test the PH Re-design!

Posted the message 'Re: Help us test the PH Re-design!' on the Comments on the PH Re-design forum.
Something that could look cool in the future would be the interactive element on the site. Something where the user can edit the page layout so the items that they use the most are in the position they want it. It could also lead to a further development where users of PH could design our own apps for it.

Obviously the work involved would be large and therefore may not be viable
but it would be a cool feature of the future.

Matt

: Hello to all PH users,
:
: We have been working hard over the past months to bring Programmer's
: Heaven a new look and some new features. Along the way, we have also
: worked to improve the navigation greatly: between forums, or to
: resource pages, will now be just a single click from anywhere on the
: site, for example!
:
: We plan to launch the re-design in about a week, if all goes
: smoothly, but before we do that we wanted to let you - the
: Programmer's Heaven community - have a look over it and give us any
: comments about what you like and dislike. Bug reports are also very
: welcome; one can never do enough testing! You can check out a demo
: of the re-design at:
:
: http://testing.communityheaven.com:90/
:
: Please note that the testing site is working on a copy of the
: live site's database, not the real data. This not only means that it
: will quickly lag behind the content here, but also that any forum
: posts, resource submissions, comments or blog entries you make on
: the testing site will not be reflected on the live site now or after
: we launch the re-design. Please just post testing data there.
:
: Please use this forum to report bugs, provide feedback and have
: discussions on the re-design. The Programmer's Heaven team will be
: listening to what is said here and participate in the discussions.
: We are open to making changes, and of course doing bug fixes, as
: they are suggested here. Without you folks, we have no community, so
: we want to make a site that is useful and enjoyable for you.
:
: Thanks for your time, and for being part of Programmer's Heaven!
:
