Among the huge sized database, one may need to select particular record for use at the moment, but at times either due to issues with outlook or indexing function the process stops by giving error messages & such could be the critical scenario where outlook 2007 crashes when searching. With the help of scanpst.exe 2007 utility provided in outlook, such PST corruption issues could be resolved.

After upgrading from outlook 2007 & searching for items the following error message may be displayed –

“Instant Search encountered a problem while trying to display search results. Modifying your query may resolve this problem”

Outlook PST file corruption, incomplete indexing, problems with Windows search installation could all arise the problem so discussed which require proper methods to be implemented so that the error is fixed.

Based on the reason, as it may be the steps for resolving it includes –
PST indexing option should be enabled, check whether PST is displayed under outlook or not, if not the account has to be recreated. If the file is displayed, it should be deselected & outlook should be restarted, provided this works, erroneous issue is resolved.

To fix damaged index file – select indexing options from Control Panel and then advanced -> button rebuild. As the process involves complete index rebuilding, if the issues lies with it, problems of crashes is sorted out & application performs searching process properly.
