ICT education proposed for UK schools

Wrote a new blog post in my blog.
After UK Prime Minister David Cameron called for sport to be made compulsory in primary schools, Cloud computing specialist Scott Fletcher has followed with his own demands. He has said that competitive keyboard skills should also be made compulsory in schools, as a part of the regular curriculum. Fletcher founded ANS, which is the cloud computing infrastructure group, and he has emphasised the importance of teaching children about ICT. He doesn't just want young people to learn how software works either, he wants them to actually learn how to create such software themselves.

In Fletcher's opinion, as well as many other people's, children should be learning the basic principles of coding. As technology develops, from ICT programmes to games like PartyPoker Slovak, it is important that as many people as possible move with the times. As the students of today grow older, they will become the ones upon whom the responsibility falls to continue this rise. If they have been brought up with coding from a relatively young age, then they will find it easy to keep learning about it and keep up the momentum.

According to Fletcher, “every child should be given access to a computer, be able to type and have knowledge of basic programming before they leave primary school.” This means that when they make career choices, they already have the skills for many lines of work. These skills will become very important in the years to come and graduates will be glad that they were exposed to them at a young age. The more people in the world that learn at least the basics of coding, the greater the chance that we have of continuing along this path of ICT development and seeing big leaps in the future of the technology industry.
