I would like to use c# because I dont know any better.

Has anyone done this yet?
ID3v2 Frame TIT2

I decided to recently start parsing some of my mp3 files to see what type of tags they had. Then I ran across one with a strange formatting in the TIT2 frame, which is a title. It had the name of my song, but each letter was separated by a 0x00 byte. None of my media players have trouble reading this. Any suggestions to what the problem could be?
ID3v2.4 Footer

Hello

I'm actually developping a class system to read/write into MP3's ID3v2.4 tags. I've found this description about footers on the site www.id3.org:

3.4. ID3v2.4 footer

To speed up the process of locating an ID3v2.4 tag when searching from the end of a file, a footer can be added to the tag. It is REQUIRED to add a footer to an appended tag, i.e. a tag located after all audio data. The footer is a copy of the header, but with a different identifier.

ID3v2 identifier "3DI"
ID3v2 version $04 00
ID3v2 flags %abcd0000
ID3v2 size 4 * %0xxxxxxx

The ID3v2.4 footer is marked as optional, but here it's seems that into some cases, this footer is required. So, this description is not easy to understand. My questions are :
- Is ID3v2.4 footers are optional or required ?
- If optionals, in whitch cases there are required ?

Thx, regards...
WAV/MP3 querying using LAME(?)

I want to write an app to derive frequencies from waveforms of mp3s with a view to programming a crude transcription system. i.e. "this bar uses this chord", etc...

Could anyone recommend me reading, or open source projects or anything like that?

Or talk me out of it...

Thanks,
MP3 Encoding question

Hi,

I've just found this forum and by reading some of the posts here, I can see that I have come to right place to ask my question.

Does anyone know if there is a program that can mix 4 mp3 files together into one file? I do not mean concatenate, but actually mix them together, for example if the input was 4 x 30second mp3 files, the output will be 1 x 30 second mp3 file.

Sequencers/DAWs like Cubase, Audacity, Cool Edit Pro etc have a function that do the job but I would like to automate the process by calling the program from a script and either pass paramters to the program via the script or use an xml file as the input. The parameters would be the filenames of the mp3s to be mixed, the volume and pan levels for each mp3 and the output filename) the output would be one file which is a mix of the 4 input files.

If there is not a program available all ready that can do the above, how easy would it be to write such a program using an encoder like LAME or even starting from scratch? I know that LAME can be run with parameters e.g. lame -resample lame -b etc. at the command line. Is it possible to write such a program?

Thanks for reading, any suggestions would be much appreciated.
a question for MP3 gurus

Lets say you have an MP3 file. You need to insert 15 seconds audio in the beginning.
Then once the file is played for the first time, you need to remove those 15 seconds.
Is it somehow possible without a need for custom player?

Thanks alot,
losing all tags

I am looking for a simple piece of code that will allow me to extract everything EXCEPT the tags. In otherwords, I want to either read into memory or create a file that has none of the tags. I can detect whether it has either type 1 or type 2 tags, and I understand that the type 1 tag is at the end and is something like 127 bytes if present. While the type 2 tag is at the front but is a varying length.

So, TAG2 & data & TAG1... right?

All I want is 'data' from the middle.
Lame decoding

Hello, sorry to disturb you all. I am newbie here. Recently, I call lame.exe from my software to do the encode and decode part by the help of a friend. My software is designed to record and play wave file in audio and visual. It is used in our speech rehabilitation centre to help children with speech problem. I work part time there.

I convert the wave file recorded by my software to MP3 by calling the lame.exe. It happened successfully.

Then, since the software can only play wave (cannot play MP3), I use the lame.exe to convert MP3 to wave file again. But, my software failed to play the wave giving the error of Unsupported File Format.

I checked both the wave file before and after conversion. They give the same format: PCM, mono, 16 kHz, 16 bits, 256 kbps. I could not figure out why the software cant play the wave file after conversion. The software can play the wave file recorded by the software itself.

Then, I tried by changing - -decode to - - decode t but I get another error of saying that Invalid File Type. The, I tried again for -x because I thought there may be problem of little endian and big endian. The problem is still the same.

Hope you can give me some ideas or suggestions. I promise to do it as independent as possible, please, please. Please guide me at this very beginning.
Compression/Decompression Wave File to MP3 and vice versa

Hello, everybody. Sorry to disturb you all.

Currently, I have a speech recording and playback software developed by Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0. The software is used to train children with speech problem and scores will be calculated and showed at the end of each practice session. The software is able to record and playback real-time.

Children use this software at home and save their practice records in a single floppy disk. Then, children will bring the floppy disk with practice records inside when they return to our centre. There are 20 wave files that must be saved in a single floppy disk. Due to space insifficiency, one floppy disk is 1.44M in capacity.
Total size of 20 wave files = 20*188k = 3,760,000 bytes
Total floppy disk needed = (3,760,000)/1,440,000 = 2.6 floppy disks
But, I must save all the 20 wave files into a single floppy disk

Our problem is we are not able to save all 20 wave files in a single floppy disk. We cant afford a CD-RW for each child and we must use floppy disk. The solution is we have to compress the wave file to save the files in a floppy and decompress the files back to wave file in order to listen to how the children practice at home.

I am totally new to this as the software is written by one of my previous friend who worked together with me in a voluntary speech rehabilitation centre. We need this software to train children in the centre. I work part time there.

But, my problem is how to call any CODEC dll into correct place into my current project platform without causing any bugs? Please forgive me if I have asked a very silly question, I am sorry. After I have added the cpp and h files into my current project paltform, I dont know what should I do next.

My final destination is to save all 20 wave files in a single floppy disk. I didnt restrict that I must use compression/decompression methods but I dont know what else should I use.

Hope you can give me some guidances on how to do it or you please link me to pages that help me to do so. I promise I can learn as independent as possible but I really need your guidance at this very beginning, please.

Please, I really appreciate all your help.

I was writing the mixer/dj soft. I managed to decode mp3s.

I am looking for a better way to apply pitch / time stretching.

Currently I re-encode the wav data using a different sample rate.

It works fine for wav files but for mp3s it gives problems when both players are playing, I seem to be too much procesing to re-encode on the fly. I need help with some buffering algorithm of something.

I can post the source code for those interested.
Anybody have any sample code that could educate me in:
1. mixing 2 mono mp3 files into 1 mono output file without decoding?
OR
2. put each of 2 intput mp3 files into separate channels of a stereo output mp3 file without decoding?

Thanks,
Hi,
I need software for modifying existing mp3's - for instance,
take a piece of mp3 and create a new track which repeats
this peace several times.
Also, a software which creates new tracks from scratch.

Can anyone recommend me some good software that i could
use, and which runs on Windows XP, please ?

Thank you in advance,
Greetings, MP3 freaks!

I've just been appointed moderator of this forum, so I now run both official audio forums. I'm not familiar with the internal workings of an MP3 just yet, but I know the basic structure format and the tag format. If you have any questions I'll try to get the info.
MP3 Format ID Tag Creation?

Alright, I have implemented audio playback for music and sound in my game engine, and I can convert any format to MP3, but my problem starts there. The files play fine and all, but there is no ID info on the songs. I want to mark the songs by their original author or myself depending on who wrote the piece. I assume that the internal structure of an MP3 is basically some kind of header followed by compressed redbook audio. If that's the case then editing or adding the header would be easy. However, I still need the format of the header. Any ideas?

I have a web-based database of text audio files, and want to download them to mp3 player. Is there a software available that is not related to music files? I am looking for a user interface that would have information related only to those non-music, text audio files that
I need to download. Please respond to dimgold22@hotmail.com
