software runs too slow Posted by twinmarlin on 15 Jun 2008 at 6:30 PM
I have a curious situation. I've written some software to run using the Vantage Pro 2 weather station. The software works fine on my stand alone system but when I put the same software on my neighbor's machine it runs slower, much slower. But here's the curious thing. His machine has 1.67 Ghz processor vs my 256 Mhz processor, his has about 700 mb memory vs my 160 mb, his has a 256 mb video card vs my 128 mb video card. All hardware settings on the Comm Port are identical to mine and we even made sure he had nothing else running on his machine. So why would the identical software run slower on HIS more powerful machine than mine? Is there something I may be missing? Any help would be appreciated.

Vista vs DOS? More background processes? Other interpreter?

Hi,

Maybe your neighbour has a hard-drive that is nearly full?

Leave at least 200Mb free on the system hard drive which is usually drive C:\ for WINDOWS.

Regards,

Dr M

I've written a few windows server services. One is reading the serial port and sends the weatherdata of my Vantage Pro2 over the local LAN. It performs very fast. (also written in VB6). Look at your mailbox I posted a PM.
