: I have a modem that I use with AOL. Everytime I restart my computer, the COM ports for the modem keep switching between COM 3 and COM 4. What can I do to prevent this switching?

You are not providing any usefull information
(windows version, modem model, is it internal or external,
driver version, number of physical COM ports and
their assignmet...). Did you try to disable or uninstal
one of the two ports?
