running a .exe file on the net Posted by dHEXb on 19 Mar 2002 at 4:59 PM
Hi
my mate wants to know, for his website, if you can actually run an exe file online, like, if you click on a link to it or something. Is it possible?
thanks

You can always choose 'open' instead of 'save' (off course, it still gets downloaded and executed on the client machine)
Or some (windows) servers offer *.exe cgi programs ... but not many

Sure you can. Posted by slicer69 on 19 Mar 2002 at 5:44 PM
The answer is yes. There are a number of ways to do this:

1. Create the program as a Java Applet
2. Run the program on the server (if you have an account)
3. Click the link in a Windows browser and select "Run" instead of "Save"
