: Hi all,
: I have just started to learn Java.Which book shud i go for..??
: I currently have Java 2 Fifth Edition, by Schildt.
: Is this a good book??
: Plz Help!!
Never read that one. Schidt has a rep for putting out poor books, but he does have a few good ones, so this might be one of them. Does it cover the newest API? Java SE 1.5 aka Java 5.
If you want to know what books are good and what aren't I know 2 good sources. The first isn't always up to date, but alwasy have good reviews.
The second is www.Amazon.com. While it is not a review site per se, nearly every book has good feedback. Most of it is subjective, which is not a bad thing, since everyone learns differently, as long as a book avoids teaching bad programming practices, and you are learning, it should be ok. I dislike some of Amazons business practices(like patenting crap that should not be patentable ie one-click ordering), but they have a huge selection, lots of user feedback, most of it is intelligent, and excellent pricing.
