Trouble installing mandrake on oldish computer Posted by thegreenstar on 25 Jun 2003 at 5:00 PM
Hey...I have a gateway 2000 computer. It used to have windows 3.1 on it but I uninstalled it. My parents lost the disks to install it again. I have tried several different methods of installing Mandrake Linux 9.1 from a CD, however none of them work. The one that seemed most promising was this (D: is my CD drive)

C:\>D:
D:\>cd \dosutils\autoboot
D:\>D:\dosutils\autoboot> autoboot.bat

on the second line, the computer displays

INVALID DIRECTORY

is there another, perhapse sure-fire way to install it using DOS?

I'm not sure how YOU use to install systems but I would prefer rebooting the computer going into BIOS setting CD as booting medium. Then put the CD into the drive and reboot again and what do we see? a nice Mdk interface!
