Sounds like it was stored in UNICODE. a "wchar_t" is two bytes wide instead of one. The world runs on UNICODE now, so you may wind up with more files like this one in the future, unless you use an old Windows 9X application to edit them. I'll post a link below to some information that helped me get started with UNICODE in my C++ programs a while back. Maybe it can explain this to you.
ID3v2 Frame TIT2

I decided to recently start parsing some of my mp3 files to see what type of tags they had. Then I ran across one with a strange formatting in the TIT2 frame, which is a title. It had the name of my song, but each letter was separated by a 0x00 byte. None of my media players have trouble reading this. Any suggestions to what the problem could be?
ID3v2.4 Footer

Hello

I'm actually developping a class system to read/write into MP3's ID3v2.4 tags. I've found this description about footers on the site www.id3.org:

3.4. ID3v2.4 footer

To speed up the process of locating an ID3v2.4 tag when searching from the end of a file, a footer can be added to the tag. It is REQUIRED to add a footer to an appended tag, i.e. a tag located after all audio data. The footer is a copy of the header, but with a different identifier.

ID3v2 identifier "3DI"
ID3v2 version $04 00
ID3v2 flags %abcd0000
ID3v2 size 4 * %0xxxxxxx

The ID3v2.4 footer is marked as optional, but here it's seems that into some cases, this footer is required. So, this description is not easy to understand. My questions are :
- Is ID3v2.4 footers are optional or required ?
- If optionals, in whitch cases there are required ?

Thx, regards...
: I'm asking if it is possible using a programming language whatever
: it is to make MP3 player support playing RM (real Media)
:
: Thanks.
:

Exactly what Sephiroth said. If you can get as far as programming the player, it's as simple a pluging in the RM Media Codec, which can be found here- http://www.free-codecs.com/download/real_Alternative.htm
I do not believe that this is possible. You're talking about a wave consisting of many different instruments playing simultaneously. You would first have to somehow single out your instrument and then figure out what chord it is by the sound. That would be difficult and slow.

-Sephiroth

MP3 Encoding question

Hi,

I've just found this forum and by reading some of the posts here, I can see that I have come to right place to ask my question.

Does anyone know if there is a program that can mix 4 mp3 files together into one file? I do not mean concatenate, but actually mix them together, for example if the input was 4 x 30second mp3 files, the output will be 1 x 30 second mp3 file.

Sequencers/DAWs like Cubase, Audacity, Cool Edit Pro etc have a function that do the job but I would like to automate the process by calling the program from a script and either pass paramters to the program via the script or use an xml file as the input. The parameters would be the filenames of the mp3s to be mixed, the volume and pan levels for each mp3 and the output filename) the output would be one file which is a mix of the 4 input files.

If there is not a program available all ready that can do the above, how easy would it be to write such a program using an encoder like LAME or even starting from scratch? I know that LAME can be run with parameters e.g. lame -resample lame -b etc. at the command line. Is it possible to write such a program?

Thanks for reading, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

: I'm asking if it is possible using a programming language whatever it is to make MP3 player support playing RM (real Media)
:
: Thanks.
:
You would need the source to the player and the RM codec. You would then manually have to code support for the codec into the player. Some modern players do support "plugins", and you need only get the plugin sources and code your own plugin that uses the RM codec.

: Lets say you have an MP3 file. You need to insert 15 seconds audio in the beginning.
: Then once the file is played for the first time, you need to remove those 15 seconds.
: Is it somehow possible without a need for custom player?
:
: Thanks alot,
: Eugene.
:
:

Why do you need to insert 15 seconds of audio in the beginning?

This isn't possible without a custom player, as a normal player won't write to the file.
I would suggest using dbPowerAmp. It is a freeware application that can encode and decode virtually all formats. You could then encoe to a better quality format such as WMA or even OGG, then decode back to wave using the same program once you get where you are going. However, even the best codec around loses some quality during compression, so the wave may sound slightly different than the original after all the conversions. If you need to play wave format, I would pick up a cheap 1GB or less flash drive and just leave it as wave to begin with.

-Sephiroth
Re: Lame decoding

: Hello, sorry to disturb you all. I am newbie here. Recently, I call lame.exe from my software to do the encode and decode part by the help of a friend. My software is designed to record and play wave file in audio and visual. It is used in our speech rehabilitation centre to help children with speech problem. I work part time there.
:
: I convert the wave file recorded by my software to MP3 by calling the lame.exe. It happened successfully.
:
: Then, since the software can only play wave (cannot play MP3), I use the lame.exe to convert MP3 to wave file again. But, my software failed to play the wave giving the error of Unsupported File Format.
:
: I checked both the wave file before and after conversion. They give the same format: PCM, mono, 16 kHz, 16 bits, 256 kbps. I could not figure out why the software cant play the wave file after conversion. The software can play the wave file recorded by the software itself.
:
: Then, I tried by changing - -decode to - - decode t but I get another error of saying that Invalid File Type. The, I tried again for -x because I thought there may be problem of little endian and big endian. The problem is still the same.
:
: Hope you can give me some ideas or suggestions. I promise to do it as independent as possible, please, please. Please guide me at this very beginning.
:
:

Let me see if I understand your problem correctly... you encoded an MP3 file using LAME, and you again decoded the MP3 file back to WAV, and are trying to play the WAV file in your app, but it gives you errors.

If this is the issue, then I would suggest that you find a WAV file which plays fine on your app, and then see it's attributes (sampling rate, bits per sample, channels). Maybe your software is looking for a particular set of attributes, for e.g., only stereo, 44.1 KHz, 16 bit files.
: : Hi all
: : I would like to capture the online strameing audio and do some process over it.To do that I would like to know how i could capture the online streaming audio. If there is any available example C programs to do that?
: : How can I do it?
: :
: : Need Help.
: :
: : t.senthil
: :
: I think you only have to open a socket to the right place and it will stream the audio to you.
:

You have to send some plaintext message too. I`ve done this, but I can`t exactly remember what to send. Use Ethereal (www.ethereal.com) to capture packets and then have your favourite media player stream a station, then watch the traffic and try to imitate what the player sends. You only have to worry about sending an initial message, the server will take care of the rest. The server will send mp3 (or whatever format is chosen) data with some station information every 16000 bytes or so, until you close the connection.
