I am a Christian and I view my religion as a basis for knowing how to be a good person. The Bible teaches us about morality so that we will know the difference between right and wrong. However, the main argument against the Christian faith is that somehow this religion is used to control the masses. While I believe that religion CAN be used to control the masses, I don't really believe that it has ONLY been used to control the masses. I mean really, in America does religion really seem to control us? Not at all. The liberal mass media promotes homosexuality, which the Bible forbids. Our country was founded on Christianity, but many of those family values are no longer as important in today's American society. The media is constantly promoting the use of drugs and sex to today's youth. We are all sinners and I don't think religion could really ever be used to control people because people are always going to choose evil at some point. While religion has played a factor in wars, do you really think that there weren't other motives, such as land, wealth, and power? If the Bible was really used to "control us" and we all followed it, the world would probably be a much better place. If religion is just something we made up, wouldn't that mean that life is only about obtaining pleasure and wealth, even if that meant others would have to suffer or be killed in wars? Something doesn't seem right about that. What do you guys think?
