I'm a life science graduate student. I would like to leran how to program Perl so that I can use it for my research. I have no prior programming expreience. Would someone please, please, please, give me detailed direction to download and install perl?

What platform? If Win32, grab the ActiveState package, which comes with a full installer. See:-

If you're on Linux/UNIX, you would most likely already have it...
