COAL TESTING MAY BE DIVIDED INTO THREE CATEGORIES: PROXIMATE analysis, ultimate analysis, and miscellaneous analysis. Proximate analysis is the determination, by prescribed methods, of the contents of moisture, volatile matter, ash, and fixed carbon (by difference) content.
