This is a newbie question.
I've been a programmer in the past with C and even assembler etc (a while ago). And I've dabbled in php and Perl, etc. Now I do video and some web stuff.

I had an idea for a windows app freware tool, and was wondering how to even start?
I'd like to make a small app that basically produces a drawing on-screen and writes out an Avi file frame by frame while its being drawn.

What programming language should I do this in, and is there some helpful code available online here and there (so I don't have to reinvent the wheel again) ?
