CD-ROM Posted by Vlad on 23 Mar 2001 at 9:29 PM
hi.
for some weird reason my cd-rom stopped working all of a sudden.

i don't know why and what's wrong otherwise i wouldn't be here :). but all i know is that it keeps tryin to read the cd but after a lot of tries it stops and when i try to access it's contents it tells me that the device is not accessable - the device is not ready.

it's the same message as you get when you have no cd in the cd-rom but in this case i get the message all the time and i don't know what to do. i reinstalled the newest drivers, i checked that the cables and wiring is correct and i'm runnin low on ideas on how to fix it.

any help will be appreciated.

Two things I can think of may be wrong.
1) The CD could have a small scratch on an important bit of information, causing it not to be detected.
2) If you recently updated the program that the CD uses, the new software may not be able to detect yor CD-Rom anymore. This happened to me when Diable II came out with an update. It kept telling me that there was no CD in the drive.(Toshiba DVD-ROM)
This may or may not have helped (probably not), but it's all I can think of.

If the CD-ROM cannot read ANY CD's (the computer assumes that there is no CD inside) and you've tried all things (cleaning, reinstalling driver, reattacth cables) probably your CD-ROM is broken. Try it at other PC first, if it still won't work replace it.
