Caller ID through TAPI Posted by mahesh_v_nair on 20 Dec 2001 at 2:16 AM
We are unable to get Caller ID through TAPI (using lineGetCallInfo). We have a GVC modem (Conexant RC56D2 Serial PnP modem) which supports caller ID. We tried to get the caller ID through Hyper Terminal as follows-
1. Set and opened the COM port
2. issued ATZ command
modem responded with "OK"
3 issued AT+VCID = 1 command (to enable caller ID)
modem responded with "OK"

when the call came, ringing was detected but caller ID was not shown.

Please advise us on how to solve this problem.

Hi!

If you can't get the caller ID data in HyperTerm, you'll never get it from TAPI.

Do you have a separate caller-id box on this line, to be sure that the caller-id service is working?

Are you absolutely positive that the modem has caller-id?

If yes on both questions, try GVC tech support, or double (triple?) check the AT command.

Hi again!

I would expect the caller ID format to be different in countries other than the US. So, in India, the GVC modem's Caller ID function probably won't work.

Is there a modem setting for the country? Sometimes there's a way to specify the different country parameter.

It looks like this GVC modem will not work for Caller ID in India!

:Could you pls tell me which modem will provide caller id support in India? Otherwise could you tell me where to enquire.

Hi!

Sorry I can't help with sources of MODEMS in India. I suggest you try to find the technical specifications of caller ID in India, and check with MODEM manufacturers to find a compatible one.

Good Luck in your search!

By the way, I prefer to communicate in this forum, and not by e-mail. I prefer not to respond to individual e-mails. Thank you for understanding!
