I have the same problem as you darth, i am making a game as well and wanted to do the same.. Problem is, it is VERY BAD to make a php code run ALL THE TIME and it is impossible to have it start on...
I've heard that cgi uses up a lotta extra processes during execution.. it's a reason a game developer i know decided on using php instead of perl..

I would say that your best bet is to do it yourself. Get a book on PHP or something. I'm rather new, too, but luckily this board is so helpful... ^^

If you want to work with PHP you can download the Xerver WebServer....it's free....not need to install and easy to configure.
But if you want to work with PHP and MySql....you better go...
