How to use Partition Manger to solve Error ''Partition table is bad'

MBR (Master Boot Record) partitioning scheme is the most common scheme used in Windows computer systems. This scheme allows at most four primary partitions, one of which can be the extended partition. These primary partitions are defined by corresponding 16-byte entries that form the partition table, which is included in MBR of the hard disk. As the standard rule, the MBR can contain only one extended partiton and each boot record of extended partition (EPBR) can consist of only one link to another EPBR. If this rule is violated somehow, you may experience several issues using utilities that directly interact with the partition table, such as a partition manager. In such cases, you need to repartition the hard drive and restore from the last backup. If not available, you require a Data Recoveryutility.

The following scenario illustrates a similar type of problem that can occur when suggested type of partitioning is not followed. You observe some partition issues on a Windows based computer. As a result, you use a third-party disk partition manager but the tool fails to perform the specific task. Additionally, you receive an error such as mentioned below:

“Init failed: Error 100 Partition table is bad”

The tool cannot proceed further after you receive this error message.

Cause

The error occurs when the partition manager cannot recognize the hard disk partitions. This specifically occurs when the partition table doesn't obey the standard rule of disk partitioning (as specified above). The same issue can also occur if the hard disk contains more than one active partitions.

Solution

To solve the above error, you need to follow the below steps:

Delete all the existing hard disk partitions Recreate the partitions Restore the deleted data from the last backup

There can be situations when the backup might fail or contain incomplete information. To deal with such problems, you are suggested to use a Partition Recovery Software that might recover the lost data from the corrupted, deleted and formatted hard disk partitions. The Windows Data Recovery utilities use specific scanning algorithms to examine the logically crashed drives and recover the lost data safely and easily.
