Resolving “NO_BOOT_DEVICE” Error Message at Windows Startup

A driver is a computer program that interacts with the hardware devices attached to your system. The program communicates with the hardware device with the help of computer bus or communication subsystems. These drivers are operating system specific and hardware dependent. Installation of an incompatible or corrupted device driver in Windows might result as a STOP error message. Such error messages result in unbootable hard drive and inaccessible data. For complete recovery of data under such data loss scenarios, you need to restore the data from an up-to-date backup. However, if you have not created any backup or the backup fails to restore the required data, then you need to use advanced data recovery software to recover the lost data.

Consider a practical scenario, where you receive either of the below error messages (or a combination of both) when you start your system after installing a device driver:

“STOP: 0x00000053” Or “NO_BOOT_DEVICE” Or “STOP: 0x00000053 (parameter, parameter, parameter, parameter) NO_BOOT_DEVICE”

Data saved in the Windows hard drive becomes inaccessible after occurrence of any of the above error messages. Furthermore, you encounter the above error message(s) each time you attempt to boot your system.

Cause:

The error messages are caused due to corruption of device driver.

Resolution:

To troubleshoot and resolve the above error messages, you need to follow these measures:

  • Start your system with Last Known Good Configuration option to undo the recent registry and driver changes.
  • Use System Restore to undo recent system changes. * Rollback device driver to the version prior to your driver update.
However, if the above resolutions fail to perform and the data remains inaccessible, the best option is to reinstall Windows. A clean reinstall of Windows will erase all data from the selected hard drive recovery, partition. To recover the lost data from a formatted hard drive, you need to opt for advanced data recovery software file recovery. Such Data Recovery Tools incorporate powerful scanning algorithms for complete recovery and restoration of the lost data. With highly graphical user interface, to-the-point documentation, automated recovery procedure and advanced recovery features, these recovery applications work as easy to use data recovery solutions.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is the most powerful and feature rich data recovery software. The tool supports 185 diverse file types and provides absolute recovery of data from corrupted, deleted, formatted or lost hard drive partitions and volumes. It supports FAT16, FAT32, vFAT, NTFS and NTFS5 file systems. The software is designed for Windows 7 (currently in RC1), Vista, XP, 2003 and 2000.
