How to repair corrupted PST file in Outlook 2003 when Inbox Repair Tool fails

While working on Outlook, you must have encountered several situations when it quits abruptly. Such situations can occur when Outlook encounters some unexpected error or exception. The reasons for such situations could be bugs in Outlook, insufficient system resources, etc. If Outlook displays such behavior repeatedly, it can lead to PST corruption. A PST (Personal Storage Table) file is responsible for holding all the Outlook-related information. To repair the PST file, you should use an in-built Inbox Repair tool. However, if it is unable to resolve the problem then you should use a third-party Outlook Inbox Repair software to do the needful for you.

Consider a scenario wherein you are using MS Outlook 2003 in your system. One day, when you print an email message and then close it, the Outlook quits unexpectedly. The following error message is displayed: “Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”

Cause:

The root cause of this error message is that you have installed both Outlook 2000 XPrint ActiveX Control and the XPrint Add-in in your system. Because of this, Outlook exits unexpectedly whenever you print and close an email message thereby corrupting your Outlook PST file.

Resolution:

To resolve this erroneous situation, you should disable the XPrint Add-in option. To do this, you should perform the following steps:

1. Click Options in the Tools menu. 2. Click Advanced Options in the Other tab. 3. Click the Add-in Manager option in the Advanced Options dialog box. 4. Clear the selected XPrint Add-in check box.

By performing the aforementioned steps, you should be able to resolve the error. However, if the problem is there it means that the PST is corrupt. To recover the corrupt PST, you should use the Inbox Repair tool. This in-built utility is used to repair Outlook inbox by rebuilding the PST header. However, if you still are not able to address the situation then you should use a third-party Inbox repair software to do the needful for you. Such read-only tools are able to repair Inbox by using fast yet sophisticated scanning algorithms that do not overwrite the original contents.

Stellar Phoenix Outlook PST Repair is an Outlook inbox repair tool that enables you to recover corrupted PST files. It supports PST repair of files created in Outlook 2010 (Beta), 2007, 2003, 2002, and 2000. This Inbox Repair Tool is able to recover various Outlook objects such as emails, contacts, tasks, journals, calendar entries, etc. In addition, this tool is able to preserve the formatting of the RTF and HTML messages. It is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, Server 2003, XP, and Server 2000.
