STOP Error Messages while querying about Volume Information

A part of System Restore that allows you to save information about the “set points”, when you roll back your system, is known as Volume Information. The system volume information folder also contains information about the volume, volume size, subsystems, and more. A STOP error message might occur when you attempt to when a program queries for a volume information or even a file name. Once the STOP error message occurs, the data stored in the hard drive becomes inaccessible. For complete restoration of data under such situations, you will need to restore the data from an updated backup. However, if no backup is available, or backup fails to restore the required data, then you will need to use advanced partition recovery software.

As a practical case, when you run a program that queries for volume information or file name, you encounter the below error messages:

STOP - 0x00000023 FAT_FILE_SYSTEM fastfat.sys

STOP - 0x0000000A IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Data stored in the hard drive becomes inaccessible after the above STOP error messages appear.

Cause:

The above STOP error messages primarily occur when the program is written to query the volume information by using an Async FileObject method.

Note: The above method (Async FileObject method) is not a standard practice in most programs, and is therefore rarely used to check the volume information

Resolution:

To troubleshoot and resolve the above STOP error messages, you will need to obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. Once you install the service pack, you will need to restart your system. However, if you still encounter the STOP error messages after restarting your system, then you will need to use reinstall Windows 2000. A clean reinstall of Windows 2000 will erase all the data stored in the hard drive. To access the data in such situations, you will need to use powerful partition recovery software. Such Data Recovery Tools incorporate high end scanning mechanisms to scan and recover your lost data. Such applications come with highly graphical documentation that makes them easy to understand without any prior technical knowledge.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is powerful file recovery tools. The read only File Recovery application recovers lost files and folders from corrupted, deleted, formatted or lost hard drive partitions. It is compatible with 185 varied file types that can be further extended. The software supports FAT32, VFAT, NTFS and NTFS5 file systems. It is designed for Windows 7 (Currently in RC1), Vista, XP, 2003 and 2000.
