Tips to resolve “INSUFFICIENT SYSTEM MAP REGS” error message in Windows

Whenever you install a new device driver in your system, it gets access to virtual address space supported by the CPU (Central Processing Unit). As the virtual address spaces in the memory are addressed separately, the installed device driver cannot use a pointer in virtual address space to address a location in the physical memory. To access the physical memory of the hard drive, the driver first needs to translate the address. A Hardware Abstract Layer (HAL) should set up adapter objects that support DMA (Direct memory Access) for a wide variety of device drivers and I/O buses. A STOP error in such situations primarily occurs when more map registers are allocated to the driver in comparison to the adaptor. Two major outcomes of this error message are unmountable hard drive and data inaccessibility. For complete access of data in such scenarios, the best way is to restore it from an updated backup. However, if no backup is available, you will need to use advanced Data Recovery Software.

Consider a practical case, where you encounter the below error message when you boot your system after installing a new device driver:

  “STOP: 0x00000045 (parameter 1, parameter 2, parameter 3, parameter 4) INSUFFICIENT_SYSTEM_MAP_REGS”

The four parameters in the above error message differ with system’s configuration.

Once the above STOP error message appears, the hard drive data becomes inaccessible. In addition, you encounter the above error message every time you attempt to boot your computer system.

  Cause:

The primary reason for the occurrence of the above error message is the allocation of more map registers in comparison to an adaptor.

  Resolution:

To resolve the above error and access the data, you will need to take these actions:

Reboot your system after removing the new installed software. Startup your system with Last Known Good Configuration Use Emergency Repair Disk

However, if the above actions fail to resolve your issue and the data still remains inaccessible, then you will need to use efficient Data Recovery Software. Such data recovery utilities employ advanced scanning methods to completely scan and recover data from hard drive.   Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is powerful Data Recovery tool. It completely recovers lost data from corrupted, deleted, formatted or lost hard drive partitions. The read only tool supports185 varied file types that can be further extended. It is compatible with FAT32, VFAT, NTFS and NTFS5 file systems. The software is designed for Windows 7 (Currently in RC1), Vista, XP, 2003 and 2000.
