When installed in dual-boot configuration, Windows Vista provides good performance and exceptionally realistic set of features. Such configuration allows you to boot from either of the operating system. When you try to install Windows Vista on a system using any other Windows operarting system, it asks you to select the target partition as 'Where do you want to install Windows?'. After you select the partiton and click 'Next' to proceed further, you might fail to do so with an error on screen. To solve such errors, you might be compelled to remove all the exisitng partitions and hence data from the hard disk. Thus, you will need a valid data backup to restore or use data recovery software to extarct the lost data.
For an instance, when you try to install Windows Vista in dual-boot configuration and click 'Next' after selecting the target partition of your hard drive, you might come across the below error message:
“Error: uncaught exception: (failed UI_ASSERT)”
The installation fails after you receive this error message.
Cause
Such errors occur when the hard disk partition table is consisted of multiple partition entries. Parittion table is the data structure that describes all the exisiting hard drive partitions. The above error is generally encountered if the media is corrupt and its partition table contains several entries. In such conditions, all these entries point to a single byte offset location.
Solution
Below are the steps that you need to follow to solve suc problems:
Backup all the data from the hard drive partitions
Since the partition table is consisted of various entries, you need to remove them by deleting them. To do so, you need to use command-line utility called DISKPART
Install Windows Vista and restore from backup
If no valid backup is available that could restore the required data, use
partition recovery software. Also termed as data recovery tools, these are fully-competent applications that can restore all the lost data ata safe location. Data Recovery Software provide you graphically rich user interface and hence are quite easy to be implemented.
Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery uses the most effective scanning algorithms to recover lost data and paritions from Windows 7 RC1, Vista, XP, 2003 and 2000 systems . This
data recovery tools is basically built to work with FAT16, FAT32, VFAT, NTFS and NTFS5 based hard disks. The application proves easy to use as of graphically rich interface and read-only design.
