Recovery Process of Lost or Damaged Files

Do you regularly backup your valuable data on a reliable backup media? Do you have a disaster recovery strategy to safeguard against file loss? If your answer is 'No' for any of these questions, you may encounter a number of file loss situations at any moment of time. File loss may put you in a big trouble and may even risk your business or personal life. There are several factors, such as system malfunction.

Application crash, and environment, that may make your business-critical files inaccessible. In such grave situations, you are required to go for reliable File Recovery Software to get your lost files recovered.

The file loss situations can be divided into two major categories- File Corruption and File Deletion. Both of these situations are totally different from each other and need varying kind of solutions to be fixed.

File Corruption

This is a situation where your data file may get damaged due to virus infection, operating system breakdown, improper system shutdown, and application malfunction. After corruption, you can see the file but cannot open it and access its contents. The file corruption can be indicated by a number of symptoms, such as error messages reading; 'file is unable to open', and garbage data in the file.

You need to repair and restore corrupted files to access them. Most of the applications provide inbuilt-tools to repair damaged files, such as Inbox Repair Tool in Microsoft Outlook, Open and Repair in MS Excel, Compact and Repair in MS Access, DBCC CHECKDB in Microsoft SQL Server, and Isinteg.exe in MS Exchange Server. If these tools fail to repair the damaged file, you will have to opt for third-party file recovery software. File Deletion

After deletion, you cannot see the files on your hard drive. This type of file loss is more serious than file corruption. It may occur due to accidental deletion, virus infection, file system corruption, hard drive formatting, partition corruption/deletion and so forth. Backup proves a real help in such cases. However, if the backup is not available, file recovery software come for your rescue.

The file recovery applications methodically scan the entire hard drive using efficient scanning techniques to retrieve all deleted, lost, missing, and inaccessible files. They come equipped with simple and self-explanatory user interface and thus do not demand sound technical skills.

Stellar offers superior file recovery software to repair damaged files and recover deleted files. These recovery software are available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, UNIX, Linux, and Novell operating systems. The repair applications are available for MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, and more.

DR
As your business grows, your reliance on technology and the information systems that support your business increase. From e-mail to financials, the hardware and software applications that your organization uses everyday to conduct business need to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Without them, your business may not survive.

If your organization has no DR plan at this time, you as the business owner need to make this a high priority within the company. Here are a few steps to begin the process:

1. Assemble your executive team to assess the minimal amount of information and technology needed to run the business. This may take a few days to analyze the current dependencies and impacts if your systems were down for any period of time.

2. Determine the impact to your business if any of your critical systems were unavailable. The systems that are critical to your business might include; communications, financials and manufacturing applications.

3. Once the impact analysis has been completed, develop a risk analysis and recovery plan if any or all of your critical systems were affected by a disaster. A recovery plan, may include moving your operations to another site within the company or a Disaster recovery site external to your operations that specialize in business continuity operations.

In summary, the best insurance against a calamity is extensive preparation and execution when needed. If your business could not operate if one or more of your systems were unavailable, it is time to plan for the worse and hope that it never happens. Without a business continuity plan, your company could be devastated beyond repair.
