Resolving Booting Error Post NTFS.SYS Corruption

Reasons for the occurrence of a STOP error message could be many, including the corruption of NTFS.SYS file. The Windows system file stored in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder can be corrupted due to various reasons like, operating system damage, virus attack, application malfunction, and MFT (Master File Table) corruption. The STOP error message that occurs post NTFS file corruption does not allow you to boot the system. This makes the data saved in the hard drive totally inaccessible. In such situations, it is safe to restore a copy of the data from an updated backup. But, if the backup is not available or is damaged, then the only option is to employ an advanced NTFS Data Recovery Software to recover data from NTFS-based partition.

The above scenario can be explained using the below error message, which pops up when you restart your computer:

“A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer

The problem seems to be caused by the following file : Ntfs.sys

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGEDAREA

Technical info:
  • **STOP: 0x0000050 (0x8A010FFD, 0x00000001,0xF85D8FC3, 0x00000000)
Ntfs.sys - Address F85D8FC3 base at F85C9000, Datestamp 3d6de5c1”

Since the above error message appears at the time of booting, it makes the hard drive data completely inaccessible.

Cause:

The above boot error message pops up due to corruption of NTFS.SYS file (also told in the error message).

Resolution:

Follow the guidelines to resolve the above boot error message: Boot the system in safe mode and run CHKDSK/F command. Insert the boot CD and use the Repair utility. Scan the NTFS.SYS file to remove all kinds of viruses.

However, if all the above measures fail to resolve the boot error, then you need to format the NTFS based hard drive partition. This resolution, though reliable, deletes all the data from the hard drive partition. However, there is no reason to worry because the formatted data can be easily recovered using a third-party Recovery Software. Such NTFS Recovery tools are available on the Internet, and can be easily used and installed by any user.

NTFS Data Recovery is an easy to understand and powerful application that recovers data from NTFS and NTFS5 based partitions. This utility can recover data after all kinds of logical crashes. It supports Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2003, and 2000. The NTFS Recovery utility also recovers data from external hard drives, memory cards, and USB flash drives.
