Fixing “(42)Startup Error...” Error at Windows Vista Startup

Like any other operating system users, Windows Vista users also encounter various startup errors. In most cases, these error messages are caused due to human mistakes, like improper system shutdown, installation of freeware programs (that contain virus), and more. In most situations of startup error messages, Windows Vista operating system becomes unbootable and the data saved in the hard drive becomes inaccessible. Few techniques to overcome such error messages are using 'Startup Repair' option, 'Last Known Good Configuration' feature, and 'SFC/scannow' options. However, if all the above techniques fail to resolve your problem and you encounter the same error message, then you will need to reinstall Windows Vista operating system and restore data from an updated backup. But, in absence of an updated backup, you will need to opt for a third-party Data Recovery Software.

To illustrate the above situation, consider a practical case where you encounter the below error message after starting your Windows Vista system:

“(42)Startup Error. Restart the application. If the problem persists please contact techincal support.”

After the above error message appears, the system boot process stops, which results in inaccessibility of all the files and folders saved in the hard drive. Furthermore, the same error message appears every time you try to start your system.

Resolution:

To resolve the above error message and to access the data saved in Windows Vista based hard drive, you will need to follow the below steps:

Perform system restore to a particular restore point. Uninstall any new software or driver installed on your system. Insert Windows Vista installation CD, and select 'Startup Repair' option under 'Recovery Console' feature.

In case all the three resolutions fail to resolve the above startup error message, then follow the underneath guidelines:

Reinstall Windows Vista operating system. Restore data from an updated backup.

However, in case of absence of a data backup, the only way to recover your formatted data is to use an efficient third-party Data Recovery Software. Such commercial data recovery tools perform a fast and complete scan of a formatted hard drive and recover all the files and folders, irrespective of their size and type.

Windows Data Recovery is a fast, secure and powerful Data Recovery to recoup formatted and accidentally data from NTFS, NTFS5, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, and VFAT based hard drives. The toolis compatible with Windows 7, Vista, 2003, XP, and 2000.
