Microsoft Access has encountered a problem error when trying to open Access 2002 database

In Microsoft Access, fatal system errors are common. Errors like page fault error, an application exception error, might cause Access application to stop responding or to exit abruptly. The reasons for such errors could be varied including improper memory address, Access database corruption etc. Corruption is one cause which proves to be a real headache for an Access user. Being an Access user, you might have faced data inaccessibility issues caused by corruption. In such situations, you become completely dependent on a valid and clean backup copy of your Access database. However, if no such help can be availed, then you must switch to a third-party access repair software.

Consider a scenario, wherein, you have an Access 2002 database related to your customer's information. When you make an attempt to open it, Access might close unexpectedly and you receive the following error message:

"Microsoft Access has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Cause

The error occurs when you have implemented a group policy and the Application folder is redirected to another folder on your computer. The target folder is not recognized by the Microsoft Access 2002, if it is not named as Application Data. In the folder redirection path for the Application Data Folder, the Application Data Folder name must be used.

Another prominent reason could be corruption of the Access database file.

Resolution

To resolve the problem, you can try the following Access Database Recovery steps:

Obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft XP If the problem persists, then you must change the Group Policy and the folder redirection path of the Application Data folder. Execute the following steps: 1.Start Group Policy Editor 2.In the left window, expand User Configuration>Windows Settings>Folder Redirection 3.Right-click Application Data, and click Properties 4.Click the Target tab in the Application Data Properties dialog box 5.In the Target Folder location box, check the target folder is named as Application Data 6.Click OK and exit the Group Policy window 7.Log off and then log on 8.Start Access 2002 and the database file in question To isolate the corruption problem with the database, you must repair the same with a professional Access recovery application.

Among various Database Recovery applications, Stellar Phoenix Access Recovery is well known for its outstanding results. You can use this application to repair both MDB and ACCDB files, regardless of the causes behind corruption. Compatible with Access 2010, 2007, 2003, 2002 and 2000, the access database recovery application repairs tables, forms, macros, modules and other components.
